I really love my job; in fact it’s not just a job, it’s an adventure. Every home has its curb appeal, charm and eloquent style. Of the almost 40 years that I have been in the building industry, I have not yet seen a home that I would say is not for me.

When I pull up to a client’s home, my first glance brings me back in time to my first home and exploring it for the first time. I usually observe the surrounding neighborhood to get a feel for the general space. With amazement I see a row of charming houses all flowing together in a nice roll.  Lovely manicured yards and drives are abundant, and at times it is breathtaking!

Then I tell myself it is time to start working and to see what the house might be saying to me (Yes I am a “House Whisperer” of sorts). The first thing I consider is the home’s exterior and grounds.  I typically walk around two or three times to assess the exterior conditions, examining the gutters, downspouts and understanding the slope and swale for the water drainage. Proper drainage keeps the water flow from entering the house which is an important factor in preventing mold and mildew growth inside the foundation crawl space.  A dry crawl space is tops on the list for any home.

So for today’s tip : A dry crawl space is a happy crawl space!
